IN DEFENSE OF AKANE

Akane is the sixteen year old heir to the Tendo School of Anything Goes Martial Arts, and was chosen by her sisters, Kasumi and Nabiki to be Ranma's fiancé. She is also the only daughter in the Tendo household who practices martial arts. At the beginning of the series, Akane seems to be the most adamant against the engagement, claiming she "hates boys." This is mostly a result of Tatewaki Kuno, who decided that anyone who could defeat her in combat, had the right to date her. Because of this, she is forced to fight thru a crowd of boys to get to school everyday, and so needless to say, does not look kindly on their gender as a whole.

She is considered a tomboy, and is often known for being violent and angry-- although the anime tends to exaggerate the extent of it. Akane can't cook at all, (although she did manage to make a decent bowl of curry before her trip to Ryugenzawa.) Regardless, she is horrible at most feminine tasks, which Ranma's other fiancés seem to be quite proficient at. She does, however, like to dress in pretty clothes, and can act feminine and cute despite what Ranma seems to think. She's also a lead weight in the water-- and it's doubtful that she'll ever learn how to swim.

She also has a cute piglet named P-Chan (who unbeknownst to her is actually Ryoga in his cursed form.) So, she can be pretty dense at times as well, and doesn't know how to swim. Akane is really smart, however, both in the classroom and where martial arts is concerned. (even though she might not be at the same level as the other martial artists in Nerima: Ranma, Ryoga, Mousse). She is also a really nice, sweet girl, who is willing to help anyone in trouble-- even if they are her rivals.

Akane, despite her protests, cares for Ranma, even if she won't admit it..
